Non-Medical Wheelchair Transportation

Seniors First Home Care provides private wheelchair accessible transportation with fees lower than the market average while giving you individualized personal service. We want to help you make it to your appointments and more than that, to enjoy getting out and about.  Click Here to Reserve Your Ride.

Why did we add a wheelchair van to our list of services? Frustration with what was available led us to find a better way. On more than one occasion, we needed to transport one of our clients to an appointment who was in a wheelchair. It was almost impossible to find a solution in the greater Columbia, SC area. We called around to several different companies, only to learn that in most cases, wheelchair accessible transportation means loading you into the front seat of the car and putting your wheelchair in the trunk. We disagree with this procedure. If you can get out of the wheelchair, do you need wheelchair transportation? Maybe – maybe not.

At Seniors First Home Care, true wheelchair accessibility means rolling your wheelchair into the van using a ramp, attaching the chair to the hooks in the van floor and keeping you seated in the chair at all times. True accessibility. Easy.

Our need was for a van that could accommodate a person who needed to remain in his or her chair the entire time.  Our van is equipped with an electric ramp that helps you to get into the vehicle without exiting your wheelchair. We are able to secure your chair so that you don’t move around while the vehicle is in motion and arrive safe and sound at your destination.

As non-medical transportation, we can take you virtually anywhere you need to go. We’re just a call or click away. So, whether you need to get to the doctor, a wedding, a birthday party or just want to get out and shop, Seniors First Home Care can get you there in the Finley Van! We are happy to take you where you want; but, longer trips that go twenty-five miles or more take extra planning on our part for scheduling purposes, so it’s important to plan ahead for that type of outing.

Scheduling and payment is easy and we accept a number of payment types, including major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express), debit cards, personal and business checks and cash. Because our transportation service is not medical in nature, we cannot accept payment from insurance, Medicare or Medicaid. Terms are available for companies that require an invoice or purchase order number.

We are also happy to provide wheelchair transportation to assisted living facilities and professional organizations such as hospice providers. Click Here to Reserve The Van.

There are two kinds of wheelchair transportation available in most places: government subsidized transportation and private transportation. Government transportation receive money directly from local, state and federal government sources to pay the bills. That why they can keep the cost to the consumer free or at a very low cost. Private providers do not receive any government funding so the way we pay our bills is charging what we believe are fair rates.

Who is eligible to ride with us? Everyone! We are a private service, so there are no eligibility requirements. All you have to do is call or click for a reservation and pay the fee for the ride as agreed.

When are we open to provide transportation? Our regular transportation hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am – 7:00pm and from 10:00am – 2:00pm on Saturday. Sundays and after hours appointments are available with advance notice. Holiday transportation may be available, call for details.

Our rate includes the primary passenger and one companion.  We will provide a caregiver for the duration of the trip, to remain with your family member from the beginning until the conclusion of the outing. Our wheelchair van is driven by one of our caregivers and can provide the transportation and all care needed. Our drivers are required to pass a SC DMV background check, in addition to the SLED criminal background check that we perform on every caregiver. We offer random drug screenings and maintain insurance for commercial vehicles, general liability and workers compensation.

Transportation service includes two hours of caregiver service and 50 round trip miles for $75.00. Each additional hour is billed at $16.00 per hour and each mile over 50 is billed at $0.65 per mile.

We work with families to provide wheelchair accessible transportation to their loved ones. If your family member needs reliable, high-quality transportation provided by our friendly team at Seniors First Home Care, call us today or click here to reserve your ride.
